The Virtual Sales Gorilla

Before the Gorilla gets a chance to weigh- we should probably explain, first of all - Why a Gorilla? --- Well, possibly it stems from early childhood - watching all those cartoons --- one of our favorites was "Magilla Gorilla", now if you don't remember "Magilla" -- We'll give you the "Magilla" background in a moment. But for now ... think about it ... having a 400 POUND GORILLA - tagging along on those "Cold Calls" ... is comforting! - Comforting? Sure -- just think - what prospect is going to throw you and your 400-Pound Friend out? Collection calls? - Those checks would deliver themselves! - Our Virtual Sales Gorilla is a good natured "Magilla" type! - The Television Cartoon "Magilla-Gorilla" was filled with sales strategy and retail promotion ideas - just watch and you'll see - Mr. Peebles (the pet shop owner)- had a perpetual "Magilla-Sale" - continually marking down Magilla's price for a quick sale; - unfortunately he only advertised using a sign in the window. We wonder how many Mr. Peebles there are in your market? Perhaps FullColorRadio's "Virtual Sales Gorilla" can help you convince the "Peebles" of your world that advertising on your radio station works! When you get a chance talk to him in "Idea Central" - you'll be surprised at what he knows!

Did You Know? The first reference to gorillas was in the diary/history of Hanno the Navigator, a Carthaginian prince and sailor. There was some debate amongst his men as to whether gorillas were a separate species or just a strange tribe of men.

Magilla Gorilla is the main character from The Magilla Gorilla Show, an animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera between January 14, 1964, and 1967. The show also had other recurring characters, including Punkin' Puss & Mushmouse, and Ricochet Rabbit & Droop-a-Long. In syndication, the main and supporting characters from the Peter Potamus Show were also added. Like many of the Hanna-Barbera animal characters, Magilla was dressed in human accessories, sporting a small hat and a bow tie. In Magilla Gorilla, the protagonist spent his time languishing in the front display window of Mr. Peebles' pet shop, eating bananas and being a drain on the businessman's finances. Mr. Peebles marked down Magilla's price considerably, but Magilla was invariably only purchased for a short time, typically by some thieves who needed a gorilla to break into a bank or by an advertising agency looking for a mascot for their new product. The customers always ended up returning Magilla, forcing Mr. Peebles to refund their money. Magilla often ended each episode with his catch phrase, "We'll try again next week." The only customer who was truly interested in obtaining the trouble-prone ape for good was a little girl named Ogee ("Oh Gee!"), who lamentably never had enough money. (During the cartoon's theme song, "We've Got a Gorilla for Sale", Ogee would always ask hopefully, "How much is that gorilla in the window?" a twist on the old standard, "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?").
